On June 10th, the rooftop of the Georgia Theatre in Athens became a melting pot of genres as COMMÜNE, Straitjacket Strippers, Trvy and Friends, and Honeypuppy took the stage. For those still in Athens this summer, it was a chance to experience an eclectic lineup where punk rock, hip-hop, and indie music harmoniously intersect. In the Athens music scene, it's normal that musicians are in multiple bands, and because of that the bill came together with so many different aesthetics but also a strong unspoken cohesion.

For MedX, what started as a weekend of doing yoga in the park and listening to live music with friends, ended with unjust violence and police arrests. The decision to join the protests was an easy one for him. As a veteran and a former medic, he has seen firsthand how violence can tear communities apart. And while the risks are high, he is determined to use his skills to help those who are putting their bodies on the line for justice.

As the sun sets on a typical evening in Athens, Georgia, college students stumble out of bars and weave their way down College Avenue. Many oblivious to the world around them, they laugh and chatter in their own little worlds of textbooks and parties. But if one were to look closer, beyond the bright lights and neon signs, they would see a darker reality, a town where people have spent their entire lives struggling to get by. On any given day, it's not uncommon to see individuals sleeping on benches, panhandling for spare change, or simply wandering aimlessly while the rest of the town carries on with their daily lives.

Lydia Tár teeters on the edge of insanity and genius. It's only when she refuses to acknowledge the repercussions of her actions that we as an audience start to see the cracks in her armor. By rejecting her role in a tragedy, she begins to lose herself and her actions start to feel mechanical. As a conductor, her job is to control time and react to change, but she’s not controlling time. She can’t stop it from moving forward.

Returning to Flicker after a captivating show last January, Porges came prepared with five new original songs and her debut single, All Day Long. Accompanying her on stage were Owen Hite on keys, Nick Cosby on bass, Jack Weatherby on lead guitar, and Alex Scales on drums. Together, they flawlessly executed Porges's intricate songwriting, creating an unforgettable musical experience.

Just as how sampling has been incorporated and accepted as a reputable technique and an art form, AI could be seen as the evolution of this practice of artist borrowing or quoting one another’s sound in order to create something new.
